The idea of this dating game show and its various spin-offs is simple enough: finding a partner. Islanders stay together in a stunning villa and have to make sure they’re always in a couple with a fellow islander.
That’s because the contestants who remain single at the end of each round have to leave the villa and the island. We know right, no pressure.
At the end of each round, contestants can choose to “recouple.” In other words, they can swap partners. This is optional and there is no reward or penalty for doing so.
It just gives islanders who chose a partner they’re not too excited about, perhaps in their haste to couple up and continue their island journey, a chance to continue with another contestant.
As with any drama reality show, there are obviously various dramatic twists and turns. For instance, sometimes the producers introduce new contestants to shake things up.
New islanders often get to take people who are already coupled up on a date. This is an interesting way to test the contestants’ loyalty. Also, as you might imagine, it can stir up quite some drama.
At times, viewers also get to vote on their favorite couples to determine which ones get to stay. The best and most important example of this is the final.
In the final round, there are usually about four couples left. Viewers have to vote on their favorite pairing to ultimately crown the winners of the show.
